Evin Shinn is a Language Arts and Social Studies teacher turned Literacy Coach from Seattle, WA and has dedicated himself to teaching students that their stories matter for the past 12 years. With a M.Ed. in Teacher Leadership, he has served in various capacities to mentor and equip teachers with tools that create collaborative classrooms and center students’ social-emotional learning in secondary education. Experienced in Project-Based Learning and using Restorative Practices, Evin has served on his site’s Building Leadership Team, his district’s Strategic Plan Work Group, and Peer Assistance and Review Panel to adjudicate differences regarding teacher evaluations. Shawna Coppola is an expert in child and adolescent literacy, including practices that support a diverse range of writing and writers.  An educator for twenty years, Shawna has worked as a middle school language arts teacher, a children’s librarian, and a literacy specialist/coach.

Shawna is the author of Writing, Redefined: Broadening Our Ideas of What It Means to Compose (Stenhouse 2019), Renew! Become a Better-and More Authentic–Writing Teacher(Stenhouse 2017) and a number of pieces that have been featured in Voices from the MiddleLiteracy TodayThe Reading TeacherEducation WeekThe Nerdy Book Club blog, and others. You can hear her speak on a number of literacy topics on The Dr. Will Show, OCTELA’s Speaking and Listening Podcast, and Stenhouse Publisher’s Mentoring New Teachers podcast series. She has also presented at a number of national and regional education conferences, including ILA, NCTE, ASCD, and The Educator Collaborative’s own #TheEdCollabGathering.
