Pernille Ripp is a member of The Educator Collaborative.  Read her full bio or contact her for consulting support or speaking engagements here.  She is an expert in literacy and technology integration and dedicates her research and practice to developing engaged and empowered students and communities.  In 2010, Pernille founded The Global Read Aloud, a global literacy initiative that began with a simple goal in mind: one book to connect the world. From its humble beginnings, the GRA has grown to connect more than 1,000,000 students in 60 different countries.  She is author of Passionate Learners – How to Engage and Empower Your Students, now in its second edition, and Empowered Schools, Empowered Students, both focusing on creating learning spaces and communities where students thrive and all stakeholders are empowered and passionate about learning.

Amira Abdel-Aal has been working as a teacher at New Horizon School, Irvine for the last seven years. New Horizon is an Independent Islamic School in Irvine, California that is distinguished as a strong academic institution in line with values of excellence. With a focus on developing 21st Century skills that take into consideration the whole child, Amira hopes to inspire and guide her students to be ready for the challenges of tomorrow’s world and provide the necessary foundations for raising successful and conscientious American Muslim citizens. With a 1:1 laptop program in the 5th and 6th grades, students are able to engage in creation, communication and collaboration with a global community.  A project that is near and dear to her heart, Amira has been a part of the Global Read Aloud project for the last five years.  It has been life changing and groundbreaking every year. Hear how reading, reflecting on, and sharing the same novel was used to connect the world – breaking down the walls of our classrooms, building bridges, and making learning a real-life experience one will never forget.
