Mountain Projects
Mountain Projects is a local nonprofit that Katie Wood Ray supports. It provides a variety of tools and projects to address the systemic causes of poverty and support individuals and families in far Western North Carolina. The federal government had greatly reduced or terminated many programs and sources of funding for people facing systemic poverty. In addition to donating to this organization, please advocate for the restoration of federal programs and funding.
About Mountain Projects from their website:
“Mountain Projects’ 145 employees serve more than 15,000 people each year across Haywood and Jackson Counties, with some programs that span all seven far Western North Carolina counties.
“We work to address systemic causes of poverty by providing tools and specialized programs to help individuals and families move toward self-sufficiency. Our programs and dozens of partnerships help provide assistance with health and wellness, housing, education, transportation and much more. You’ll find us supporting our community all across Haywood and Jackson Counties.”
KIND was selected by our Opening Keynote Speaker, Stella Villalba.
KIND: Kids In Need of Defense
Helping migrant youth: The federal government has terminated a 15 year funding program to provide vital legal services for unaccompanied minors within in the immigration system. Without legal services, children can be made to appear in court alone and represent themselves throughout this country’s complex system. KIND relied greatly on this funding but is shifting as best they can to continue this vital, humanitarian, work for children. In addition to donating, please advocate for the restoration of this federal funding.

About KIND: Kids In Need of Defense, from their website:
“Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) is the preeminent international nongovernmental organization devoted to the protection of unaccompanied and separated children. KIND envisions a world in which every unaccompanied child on the move has access to legal representation and has their rights and well-being protected as they migrate alone in search of safety.
“We envision a world in which children’s rights and well-being are protected as they migrate alone in search of safety.
