[su_row] Lois Marshall Barker is Teacher Development Specialist who believes that all educators deserve access to quality professional development and instructional resources to meet the needs of all learners. She holds a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Literacy Studies and is currently working in her Ed. D in Organizational Leadership with a concentration in Learning with Emerging Technologies.  Lois is certified in English Language Arts and Reading, 8-12, and in English as Second Language, 9-12. Lois started her career as an English teacher in a south Dallas high school.  There she spent six years working with campus leadership to transform literacy and sheltered instruction practices.  She took on leadership roles as a mentor teacher and department chair supporting teachers through job-embedded coaching around creating safe spaces for all students and developing culturally responsive curriculum.  After a five-year partnership and turning that campus around, Lois moved to Houston to become a Teacher Development Specialist. As a Teacher Development Specialist, Lois brings deep expertise in supporting educators in developing practices that support all learners.  For the last seven years, Lois has worked with Houston’s striving secondary campuses to improve ELA best practices, increase leader and teacher capacity, strategically integrate technology, revamp curriculum, and promote literacy across contents.  Her pre-service and in-service work promotes exploring the intersections of literacy, social justice, and multiculturalism. She is an advocate for mobilizing teacher learning and virtual coaching.  She is currently advocating for her local district to shift to a more anti-racist approach as they develop new secondary curriculum and address inequities in reaching instruction and access to resources. Lois is a member of NCTE, TALE, Project Lit Community, and TCTELA.  She serves as a section member of TCTELA’s PD Section where she works with instructional coaches and teacher leaders across the state.  You can follow her on Twitter @Lit_Bark.
